Job Introduction

We are looking for a compassionate, positive and reliable Part-time Night Support Worker to join our team at White Hart House in Portchester working 7pm-7am shifts.

White Hart House is a purpose-designed residential home supporting six adults with complex learning and physical disabilities. Our aim is simple: to provide safe, personalised support while helping each person have choice, independence, meaningful experiences and the best possible quality of life.

White Hart House has been designed around the needs of the people who live there, with spacious accessible accommodation, ensuite bedrooms and accessible outdoor areas. Just as importantly, we want it to feel like what it is  their home.

Our approach is person-centred and outcomes-focused. You will get to know each person as an individual: how they communicate, what matters to them, their routines and preferences, the support they need and the things that make them happy.

White Hart House is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with a Good rating across all five areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. CQC found that people were supported safely, their health needs and associated risks were managed appropriately, medicines were managed safely and staff received appropriate training. Inspectors also found that staff treated people with kindness and respected their dignity, with care and support tailored to individual needs and preferences.

We want to continue building on this and are looking for Support Workers who understand that excellent care is about more than completing tasks. It is about meaningful interaction, communication, relationships and making every day – and every night – count.

What will I do as a Night Support Worker?

No two people are the same, so good support starts with getting to know the individual.

During a night shift, you will help ensure the people living at White Hart House feel safe, comfortable, respected and supported throughout the night.

Depending on individual needs, your responsibilities may include:

• Providing person-centred support throughout the night
• Supporting individuals with personal care while maintaining dignity and privacy
• Supporting people with complex physical and health needs in line with their individual care plans
• Responding to people's communication needs, wishes and preferences
• Supporting safe administration of medication in accordance with training and procedures
• Carrying out appropriate observations and responding to changes in an individual's needs
• Supporting comfortable and safe night-time routines
• Providing reassurance and emotional support when needed
• Completing accurate care records and handing over important information to the day team
• Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming home environment
• Encouraging choice, independence and control wherever possible

Previous care experience can be valuable, but it is not essential. We provide training and development to help you build the knowledge and skills you need.

The home is close to the amenities of Portchester and Portchester Castle, with good public transport links and a bus stop directly outside.

During the day and evening, support can include accessing the local community, social activities, hobbies, appointments and experiences chosen around each person's interests and goals.

The night team plays an equally important part in that support by helping people have a safe and comfortable night and ensuring continuity of care into the following day.
